Hi, I am Julie Goldstein, psychologist and gestalt therapist. I grew up in Belgium and later trained in London as a psychologist and clinical gestalt therapist. I gained my Doctoral Degree in Cross-cultural and Developmental Psychology looking at the impact of language on perception [I lived with Semi-Nomadic Tribes in Southern Africa and studied their language]. This set me on a path to discover more about how people think, feel, behave, what they believe in and what colours their world.
My approach is humanistic, experiential, creative and culturally sensitive. I believe in the ability of every individual to make the best adjustment available to them to gain more fulfillment and freedom, and that the relationship in therapy can be helpful, and deeply healing. Gestalt therapy (The therapy I practice) is at its core a therapy of awareness and a good way of working creatively in relationship. The client can explore safely and sensitively, making it a healing journey, and one the client will be able to look back on as life changing.
My experience is varied; over the years I have specialized in trauma and bereavement therapy, anxiety and post-traumatic stress, fertility and family planning, and couple therapy using gestalt therapy, and other creative approaches including emotion-focused therapy and play therapy.
In London I worked as a lecturer and clinician in various organizations and at university. I left London in early 2013 and although I look back at my time in London fondly, I have found a home in Singapore where I have been running my psychology practice, Meaningmaker.
My work is professional and ethical; I am an accredited clinical member of the UK Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP), the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the Singapore Association for Counselling (CMSAC), and an associate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). In order to constantly build on my knowledge, I belong to several psychology networks in Singapore, meet with colleagues regularly, and take part in several trainings a year. As part of my ethics I also engage in regular Gestalt Therapy supervision.
