Who Is a Psychiatrist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor with high-level training. Psychiatrists do post-graduate work and clinical residencies so that they can learn to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment for each patient. In addition, a psychiatrist in Singapore is often locally trained, familiar with the cultures, customs, and systems of the area, and thus much better able to understand and assist local people. Psychiatrists are regulated by the Ministry of Health, and they are required to have at minimum a Master’s degree in Medicine in the field of psychiatry, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in medicine or in surgery. To become a psychiatrist in Singapore, training takes between 11 and 13 years.
When to Visit a Psychiatrist in Singapore
Are you struggling with sadness, anxiety, insomnia, or stress? Do you find yourself suffering from severe mood swings or fits of anger? Perhaps you are obsessing about certain actions, behaviours, or patterns, and you’re not sure why. Maybe you’re having difficulty concentrating, focusing, remembering, or remaining still for any length of time. When your urges or behaviours begin to concern you or your loved ones, it’s time to seek help from a psychiatrist— just as you would see a dentist for a toothache or visit a doctor if you broke a bone. A psychiatrist is there to help you when illnesses or imbalances occur in the mind; and with prompt treatment, you may be able to make a full recovery.
